I've decided that for a temporary alternative, we could have a livestream set up where we play requested youtube videos. I have never actually used a livestream before, but from what I understand this is how I think it would be set up:
It will be set up in a format where the former mods and hybrids of the room will be channel operators in charge of playing videos that users request by streaming youtube videos from their desktops.
If anyone has another idea for an alternative for the time being, do not be afraid to contribute to the project.

I was thinking about that as well shiny, I think It could probably work, but I've never tried it so I have no idea. Could we use twitch maybe? Or is that just for games?
I think you might be able to have a google+ hangout where you can watch videos together, but again I've never tried it so I'm not sure.

the hangout seems to be limited to 8 people so I don't think that would work all too well for us, but any other option seems reasonable at the moment.

I've been anticipating the open sourcing of Synchtube for a while (by this of course I mean watching anime and reading a ton of manga), currently my only plans involve local testing of the synchtube stuff on my home server due to my lack of economic power to implement it on any larger platform. Through this home-server, I will hopefully be able to contribute changes to the code that runs synchtube even if I cannot run it for anyone else to use.
I just thought I'd make an update since the forums seem to be moving kind of slow, I want everyone to be aware that this community does not have to die despite the central hub where the community aggregates has disappeared from sight for the time being. Remember to continue checking back here for updates from me, and as the source for Synchtube opens up, I will be looking at possible changes that would work with the code.

Yes, while we can't watch videos together, we can still enjoy circle-jerk and each other's company.
BTW I'm werthog2994 for anyone curious. I don't know the meaning of the name, I think it's just a name that neopets randomly assigned me when I was a kid that I just never dropped.

Why not just go to watch2gether The simple answer is: No, that site is awful. Be prepared for our new site to pop up as soon as I see the source release for synchtube, plans are in motion to use that, and if not that I believe that there is a better backup in the works. |
